ST. ANDREW and HOLY COMMUNION ANGELS:  Thank you to all who so enthusiastically and generously supported the Angel Tree project.  Pastor Suzanne delivered the gifts and said that the family was so appreciative of all our support.  It is a good feeling to know that this Mom and three young children had a very happy Christmas.

The gloves and scarves were delivered to the H.E.R. Shelter on Tuesday, January 16, the day before our most recent snow storm.  Disposable diapers and backpacks that were in the food pantry also were delivered to H.E.R. They really appreciate our ongoing support.

FOOD PANTRY:  Thanks to the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and St. Andrew members consistent support, our food pantry is well stocked except in a couple of categories.  Please consider donating the following items as follows:

  • February 4 and 11:  Spaghetti sauce (jars or cans) and spaghetti
  • February 18 and 25: Peanut butter, jelly and saltine crackers

Five to ten bags of food are given out each month with more typically being requested during winter months.  When we have surplus food in some categories, we take it to OASIS.  For example, in January we had an abundance of stuffing mixes, chicken broth, and assorted canned vegetables.  These items were delivered to OASIS where they can be either used for the meals they serve or distributed to people who come to them for assistance.  Either way, St. Andrew continues to help meet a critical need in our community.

FEEDING THE FIVE THOUSAND:  Supporting ways to provide meals to area families continues to be the priority for the Social Ministry Committee.  Another way this is accomplished is through the Meals on Wheels program. Some of our church members and friends of St. Andrew have been regular volunteers delivering meals through this pro-gram for years.  One of the teams (Al Maurer & Fran Olsen) calculate that they delivered 795 meals in 2017. When you add the deliveries of the other volunteers affiliated with St. Andrew, we estimate that approximately 1200 meals were delivered.  If anyone is interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels, please talk to Al Maurer, Fran Olsen or Randy Shannon.

BENEVOLENCE DESIGNATIONS FOR 2018:  The committee proposes to follow the same schedule in 2018 as we did in 2017 for our monthly benevolence designations.
